Indexing Title: TMEDINA’s Medical Anecdotal Report [04-3]
MAR Title: “Cast Away”
Date of Medical Observation: May 4, 2004
Narration:
It was a typical busy night in the Emergency Room, when a 23 year old male came in due to pain & swelling of his left forearm.
And just like all the other patients who goes in, he was accommodated and dealt with accordingly. X-ray done revealed an incomplete fracture of the distal 3rd of the ulna. And so a posterior mold cast was applied. I then advised the patient to come back after 3 weeks for a repeat x-ray that will determine the removal of the cast.
On the day of follow-up, as he saw me with the x-ray result at hand, there was a look in his face that says…finally this cast will be removed.
Upon learning that x-ray result showed minimal callus formation, which means he had to extend for another 2 weeks wearing the cast.
Although hesitant and crestfallen at first, he eventually submitted to the plan after I have explained thoroughly the reason behind. Then he left, without saying a word. I was quite offended.
After which he came back with a bag full of imported goodies and said thank you…….until then!
