Date of Medical Observation: June 26, 2003
Narration:
They say that each moment comes on our way has a unique lesson to teach us. But gone are the days when I simply look life as simple as it is. And it only takes one day to bear out this perspective.
On June 26, 2003, the day which brought me a very trying time. A Nineteen Year-Old was admitted by the hospital. She complained of severe pain in her abdomen and was vomiting. She was then examined by our team and gave a diagnosis of Acute Appendicitis. All standard pre-operative preparation was conducted and a surgical operation was done perfectly. But things do not come rewardingly. A mishap had arisen and we must answer. I was one of those charged with Reckless Imprudence emanated from this fiasco.
Now, it led me to thinking, what was I have exactly done to deserve what was happening. I am an ordinary physician, goal-oriented, faceless among the residents’ doctors but I can tell “Appendectomy” is one of my surgical skills expertise. I have done it many times.
For many times I have successfully achieve the goal to help patients in any abdominal matters I never receive any credit from it. But one single unfavorable event, you get unjustifiable miseries, numbers of sleepless nights, and continuous thinking.
Insights: (Physical, Psychosocial, Ethical) / (Discovery, Stimulus, Reinforcements)
This teaches me that sometimes experience educates us things we do not want to know. Go back when I was still young and dreaming what person I will be when grow up, one of the off-repeated dreams of many is to become a doctor for off-repeated reasons, to help, to cure, to give hope and be a hero to patients. But one misadventure changes everything. I realize that “medical profession” is not as lovely as it is, is not as honorable or high regard as it is, for doctors are slaves of high expectation of those who are just asking their services. They do not see that doctors are also humans, and that they do not carry “Life” in their hands. They are just among those who want a better life.
