MDGALVEZ’s Medical Anecdotal Report [05-06]

MAR title: Maturity

Date of medical Observation: July 2005

Narration:

Late one evening, a consultant of mine called me up and requested that I assist him in an emergency operation. Of course I obliged. I felt privileged but I too wondered why.

Prior to the operation, he explained that one of the procedures that we were to perform was a bit unfamiliar to him that he thought it best to call on me to perform it since during my training, I have seen and managed similar cases.

After the operation, I was so happy that I felt that I was floating and couldn’t come down. I couldn’t believe that a consultant would trust me though I wasn’t his best student. I couldn’t even sleep. I felt pretty special that night.

INSIGHT (physical, psychosocial, ethical) (discovery, stimulus, reinforcement)

In the course of our conversation, he emphasized that one must know his limitations and be guided accordingly. We are dealing with a patient in an unfortunate situation wherein the main concern is his safety and how we can carry out our duties with the least of complications. I guess in this line of work. Humility dictates hop appropriate is our response to every situation. It all boils down to our level of maturity. How we handle any situation and how we handle ourselves in that given situation.

I am lucky enough to be guided by these consultants for I still have much to learn.

Thank God for my consultants.
