MJCABAHUG’s Medical Anecdotal Report [05-04]
MAR Title:
Supot ako
Date of Medical Observation:
April, 2005
Narration:
During my vacation last month to our place, my 4-year-old nephew approached me, with a sad face and said “ tito, papatule ako sa ‘yo supot pa kasi ako.”
I was stunned by his words. It was then that I learned he was being teased by his older siblings because he was not yet circumcised.
I then explained to him and to his father that there is no medical importance of being circumcised and told them about our anti-TULE campaign.
Though I knew he did not understand everything but he went away happy knowing that he would not undergo the painful ritual of circumcision
Insights (Physical, Psychosocial, Ethical) (Discovery, Stimulus, Reinforcements):
Summer as they say is TULE time to most of the Filipino children
It is appropriate that our department should make every April of each year as its Anti-Tule Campaign Month so as to win with our advocacy.
We should not be contented with our success of no circumcision in our hospital but we should aim for more, a circumcision-free Philippines perhaps.
